Music Marketing Blog Post #1

Music Marketing

Our genre: Alternative Rock

Our band name: Eddie and the Technicians

Research:

Beginning with a case study, we conducted research on the history of the production companies RCA Records and Universal Music Publishing Group. With this, this gave us insight on how a company surfaces and gains relationships with artists. Continuing with the case study, we researched four different artists or bands. By researching different artists and bands, we were able to learn about the different marketing and distribution techniques of each, and how they compare. Using this, we can use this information to guide our bands production.

Brainstorming:

An important aspect to our band was a band name. This was hard, considering how many options there are. We wanted something that would be fitting to our genre, but also relatable to our band. We had used a name generator for this process for some help. We entered one group member's name and our genre of music, and the product... Eddie and the Technicians. GENIUS.

Based off of our research, we had discussed a variety of techniques to use. We decided on using popular social media apps that our audience and fans can interact with. We decided on Instagram, which is popular with all target audiences, and a YouTube channel to post our music video. We had decided that making a website that contains our music, merchandise, social medias, tour details, about of band, and contact information, would be affective in distributing and marketing our band.

For our music video, we first discussed the meaning behind our song. By doing this, we could come up with ideas for the music video. After coming up with ideas, we arranged what part each person would get. Continuing, we made story boards to help guide and visualize our music video.

Application:

After we had decided on our name, we needed a logo. Because of our genre, we wanted a fun and vibrant logo, and we did just that; using bright colors that will grab someone's attention. I think that our main logo is very fitting to our band and genre and accomplishes its purpose well. Another, smaller, logo had been made, which we used on our merchandise that is available on our website. I had made this using Canva, which also created merchandise with this logo.

Our merchandise currently consists of hoodies, t-shirts, onesies for the little ones, and a tote bag. This is all for now, but we plan to create more in the future. We set prices for each, in order to make profit so we can grow our band and events for the fans.

The website was made using wix.com and was a fun process when creating it. This allowed me to be creative and add fun affects to make it original. I had to use creativity with this, not only making it unique and interactive, but also coming up with fake names and information for the band and its members.

Next Steps:

This Saturday, January 29, 2022, we plan on filming our music video and taking band pictures. This means editing, posting to YouTube, social media, implementing into our website, and creating our presentation. Once the music video and photos are taken, we can finish up our project and hopefully successfully market and distribute our band!

Setbacks:

Although most of the project has been moving very smoothly, we had some attendance issues with members in our group. Due to Covid and quarantine, some of our group had not been present for some of the planning and application. We were still able to keep him in the loop by keeping him updated on our project.
